Arts for the City
In celebration of its eightieth anniversary, the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) commissioned us to produce an exquisite four-color book detailing the history of public art in San Francisco.
The SFAC champions the arts in San Francisco by shaping innovative cultural policy, investing in a vibrant community of artists and creators, and promoting the arts as an essential part of daily life. Arts for the City explores this deeply compelling urban landscape, where diversity, creative energy, and political activism are reflected in bold, innovative civic art, and where citizens take pride in vigorous—often contentious—creativity. Illustrated with images from distinguished contemporary photographers and artwork from the city's 4,000-piece Civic Art Collection, this beautiful large-format book celebrates a uniquely fascinating American city, taking readers on a journey through the events that have shaped San Francisco's rebellious and vibrant cultural character.
The book captures the depth and breadth of public art in San Francisco and remains an important historical document to share with generations to come.
